Day 15: Deuteronomy 23:12-Deuteronomy 34:12 - 90 Day Challenge

Have No Fear

Beginning Week 3 and Ending Book 5

The Israelites have done it! They've come to the end of their journey and are about to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land! We've had some ups and some downs in this reading, so let's go through them!

  1. Chapters 23-26 continue to reiterate the laws the Israelites are to follow. God wanted an obedient, holy nation of people to be chosen as His followers.
  2. Chapters 27-30 talk about some of the blessings and curses the Israelites will face, as well as the reward for worshiping God and following His commands. It even says in Deuteronomy 29:9 that the Israelites are to "Carefully follow the terms of the covenant, so that you may prosper in everything you do."
    1. I'd also like to draw attention to Deuteronomy 29:18--Do not let negativity and distractions draw you away from God, "make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison."
    2. Also, you may want to consider giving Deuteronomy 30:15-20 a quick re-read; personally, I found the words extremely calming.
  3. In Chapter 31, God reassures the Israelites and Joshua, who is to succeed Moses following Moses's death. God tells the Israelites (31:6) and Joshua (31:8) to not fear, because God will be with them, and will guide them, and will never forsake or leave them.
  4. Chapter 32 is dedicated to a song (I don't recommend trying to read this in a sing-song way, you'll have to re-read it several times) about the blessings God has bestowed on the Israelites and what will happen if they turn against Him.
  5. In Chapter 33, Moses blesses all the tribes of Israel individually.
  6. Our final Chapter for today's reading (and the last Chapter of Deuteronomy) ends with Moses climbing Mount Nebo and viewing the Promised Land that God will deliver the Israelites to, and dying atop of the mountain.
And that's it! Tomorrow's reading will pick up with Joshua, as he takes over the position of the leader of the Israelites and leads them into the Promised Land!

Tomorrow's reading: Joshua 1:1-Joshua 14:15.
If you have any thoughts you'd like to share on today's reading, leave them in the comments!

Have a wonderful week!
