Day 27: 2 Kings 4:38-2 Kings 15:26 - 90 Day Challenge
Prophesies Fulfilled
Questionable Kings Fight Against Themselves
Welcome to the weekend. Everyone made it through the week, congratulations!
Today's reading was full of miracles and even more crazy kings. Right from the get-go, Elisha made the poisoned soup safe, fed 100 people from twenty loaves of bread, healed a man from leprosy, made an axhead float, and trapped invading soldiers.
Elisha was truly a man of God. He was able to perform miracles through God, because his faith was so strong.
The majority of this chapter was dedicated (again) to the switch from one king to another. Is anyone else getting frustrated with nearly every king's lack of regard for the Lord's power? Their continuous worship of false gods, when the good things the Lord has done for them lay right in front of their eyes.
How easy is it to overlook the good things that happen in our own lives? To continue "worshiping" the technology, the other people, ourselves? Why is it so hard to give the glory to God? So many of these Kings were evil! This reading was plagued with murder and famine, with deceit and with change.
Jezebel, the wife who tried to kill all the prophets, was finally killed and eaten by dogs, as Elisha prophesied in yesterday's reading. See, God sent a different man, outside of the royal family, to be king over Israel, who was named Jehu. Jehu was a true man of God, and he eliminated all those who opposed God and worshiped Baal, including the ministers of Baal.
Even the King of Jerusalem, Joash, started to turn the tribe of Judah back to God. He repaired the temple, that had begun to deteriorate over time. It's important to note that Joash was just 7 years old when he took over the throne. He was able to make this turn because his advisers were all ministers.
Religious leadership is important!
The rest of the reading is dedicated to more swapping from King to King.
Who are you worshiping? Who are you giving the glory? Who are you calling upon for aid?
Just some things to think about.
Tomorrow's reading: 2 Kings 15:27-2 Kings 25:30
Have a wonderful weekend!
